A recent study by the Boston Consulting Group predicts that the number of crypto users will reach the billion mark by 2030. This would mean that more than ten percent of the world's population would use cryptocurrencies. The study cites the rapidly growing engagement of institutional investors in the industry, as well as the rapid adoption of Web3 technology, as two of the main drivers of this growth.
Another study, by Blockware Solutions, predicts one billion Bitcoin users by 2030. This would mean that cryptocurrencies would be used by a larger proportion of the world's population than even the internet is today. The study cites the rapid adoption of cryptocurrencies in emerging markets, as well as the increasing interest from institutional investors, as two of the main drivers of this growth.
Both studies show that there is a huge potential for growth in the crypto sector. Even after the crypto crash, investor interest seems unbroken. The record value of $17.5 billion in risk capital that was invested in the sector in 2020, despite the macroeconomic-related sell-off, shows that investors have confidence in the future of the industry.

With the increasing adoption of cryptocurrencies, we are likely to see a period of hyper-adoption, where the number of users grows exponentially. This could lead to a situation where, by 2030, a large proportion of the world's population is using cryptocurrencies.
