The Austrian and Dutch postal services have teamed up to release the world’s first joint issue of a blockchain-based crypto stamp. The new crypto stamp has an integrated Near Field Communication (NFC) chip for authenticity verification. With an NFC-enabled smartphone, the authenticity can be checked and the digital twin can be revealed in the blockchain.
According to the two providers, the new crypto stamp has an integrated Near Field Communication (NFC) chip for authenticity verification. With an NFC-enabled smartphone, the authenticity can be checked and the digital twin can be revealed in the blockchain. According to the announcement, augmented reality (AR) is used here: the AR function of the smartphone is activated via NFC, and a picture of the surroundings can be seen on the screen, with the bull coming to life in the middle.
The blockchain has been improved compared to previous editions, it is said: The Crypto stamp continues to rely on Ethereum, but changes the sidechain from Gnosis to Polygon. The two postal service providers state that transactions on the blockchain would be cheaper as a result, and the energy consumption of the application would decrease. Nothing will change for owners of older crypto stamps.
According to the provider, the Austrian Crypto stamp 4.0 will be issued in a limited number of 100,000, has a nominal value of EUR 9.90 and can be used as a standard postage stamp for franking letters. The same applies to the Dutch NL crypto stamp, which will be issued 140,000 times, has a face value of EUR 9.05 and can be purchased and used from PostNL.
